    Installing Configuring and
    Uninstalling Components in a
    Novell NetWare SAN


    This chapter provides instructions installing configuring and uninstalling software
    components required for connecting Dell PowerVault 650F and 651F storage systems
    to a Dell PowerEdge or Compaq server running the Novell NetWare operating system
    All procedures in this document require administrator access permissions

    This chapter describes a NetWare configuration that requires Dell OpenManage Data
    Managed Node for NetWare to be installed on at least one of the NetWare servers
    see Figure 4 1

    This chapter describes procedures for the following components

    Windows management station for a NetWare SAN
    QLogic Fibre Channel Configuration Utility
    Dell OpenManage Application Transparent Failover for NetWare
    Dell OpenManage Data Managed Node for NetWare
    Dell OpenManage PowerSuites for Tape Backup
    NOTE To install the Windows NT or Windows 2000 based data management soft
    ware see Chapter 11 Installing Configuring and Removing Microsoft Windows
    SAN Software Components



    Setting up a Windows Management
    Station for a NetWare SAN
    Before you begin verify that you have the latest Dell supported Service Packs and
    clients installed on your servers and management station You must set up a
    Microsoft Windows management station system for installation of the following
    software packages

    QLogic Fibre Channel Configuration Utility
    Dell OpenManage Data Management Station

    Dell OpenManage Data Administrator
    Dell OpenManage Data Analyzer
    Dell OpenManage Data Organizer
    NOTES You will use the Windows NT or Windows 2000 management station as a cli
    ent to the SAN The system that you use as the management station does not need
    to be part of the SAN However the management station must it be part of the LAN
    to which the SAN servers are attached You should use the same system that you plan
    to use to monitor the SAN because you will need to use some of the applications for
    both installation and management purposes

    Analyzer and Data Organizer see Chapter 11 Installing Configuring and Removing
    Microsoft Windows SAN Software Components These components use the Data
    Managed Node software that you install on your NetWare server and must be
    installed after Data Managed Node has been installed



    QLogic Fibre Channel Configuration Utility
    NOTICE Before installing the QLogic Fibre Channel Configuration Utility
    you must install the HBA and ensure that its firmware is at the latest level
    For information about installing the HBA and HBA firmware see Install
    ing Host Bus Adapters in Servers in Chapter 10

    The Qlogic Fibre Channel Configuration Utility is used to maintain a list of World Wide
    Names WWNs on both Windows and NetWare systems and to enable proper opera
    tion of Storage Consolidation on Windows systems

    NOTE You must run the QLogic Fibre Channel Configuration Utility each time the
    hardware on the SAN changes to create the appropriate settings for the replaced
    device

    NOTICE The following procedures assume that you are performing an
    initial installation These procedures vary if any of the components are
    already installed on the system

    NOTES For a NetWare SAN installation run the QLogic Fibre Channel Configuration
    Utility setup process on a Windows NT or Windows 2000 system that is network
    connected to all NetWare servers

    You must have the latest Dell supported NetWare client loaded and running on the
    Windows NT or Windows 2000 management station

    To install the QLogic Fibre Channel Configuration Utility for NetWare you must install
    it on the Windows NT or Windows 2000 management station first and then on all
    NetWare servers
