Hi, I've been given a Thinkpad T40. It did have XP Professional on it, but I did a reboot 'from CD' using a Windows XP Home edition Operating System disc that I got when I bought my Dell.

1. Is it OK to use this Dell disc on an IBM machine? It seems to work OK
2. I have probably lost all my drivers on the laptop as a result of reinstalling windows. Will your CD sort me out?
3. Due to the lack of drivers etc etc I cannot get my laptop connected to the internet. Can I download your drivers onto my Dell, save them onto a flash card or something - then put them onto my IBM? Will it know which directory to put them in?

Many thanks

Hi

Yes it will work but your product key or activation key wont. As only Dell windows activation key will work. As far as drivers are concerned, our recovery cd has them all and most of the other factory stuff. you can download the CD as a .iso file and burn it to a cd on any computer. you can access your account area from any computer in the world as long as you have your password, the iso can be downloaded as many times as you need

What is the Product Key/Activiation key, and what is the implication of them not working. If the laptop isn't going to work properly - what is the solution - do I have to purchase a new version of XP from the shops?

Thanks

Its the activation key on the back of the laptop, basically the COA (certificate of Authenticity) the long number on the back of the IBM very likely will not work on a Dell recovery CD, I have here windows XP and all the recovery cds (all originals) which are for the T40, these will work with your COA this is a 6 disk set. If you use the contact sales on the help pages.. this will send and email to them and they will quote you a very good price for the lot..

Thanks - Before I purchase XP and the recovery discs.. I need to make sure that this laptop is wireless enabled and will be able to connect via my wireless router- otherwise I won't invest any more into it. THe laptop has a sticker on it which says intel inside, Centrino mobile technology. Can I assume it is wireless enabled, or is there a more technical way of finding this out for sure?

Thanks

Hello, I can't find a phone number anywhere on this site, and still need to ask some more questions either by email or on the phone. I'm not sure if I need Boot CDs, Recovery CDs, XP (with or without an Operating System).. etc.. Also I need to find out if this laptop is wireless enabled. Can you help me or point me in the right direction.. then I'll buy some software! Thanks :-)

hi sorry we are uk time and had a local holiday all day monday so we are bit slow on replying. We do not heve telephone support yet but the forums and email will be fully manned tomorrow.the laptop should be wirelless yes as the centrino denotes, If you have a workable XP then all you need is the recovery cd without the OS.
